Hello Everyone, Science fair registration must be completed by this Thursday, January 14th. Your science fair abstract, research plan, and all required forms must be submitted to Z-Fairs by this Thursday. You can submit paperwork electronically or as paper copies. All paper copies must be given to your teacher or the front office on Wednesday so that we can upload them to the website for you. Paper copies of the forms can be picked up from the front office. If you have not registered for Z-fairs yet, that must be done before you can complete or upload any paperwork. Your project plan and abstract is to be done in the dashboard section of Z-Fairs or on a Google Doc and shared with your teacher so that your teacher can put that information into Z-Fairs.

Good morning Centennial students and families, As we say goodbye to 2020, I want to update you all about three important changes for our second semester that begins January 4, 2021. 1. All students will be 100% remote learning the week of January 4-7. Please use your current Zoom schedule to attend class. Attendance will be based on Zoom participation. As a reminder, this means that your camera is on and you are using headphones, when possible, to minimize household distractions. If you need headphones, please reach out to your teacher. 2. Starting January 11, ALL K-12 TRADITIONAL students will be on-campus Mondays and Wednesdays. All Preschool TRADITIONAL students will be on-campus Tuesdays and Thursdays. Your teachers will provide an updated Zoom schedule for all 100% Remote Students when we return on January 4, 2021. 3. Meals are available for all students (remote and traditional) for pick-up on Mondays and Wednesdays on the East side of the school from 10:00-11:00. Traditional student families can pick-up for their remote days at these times and 100% remote families can pick-up for all days. All current family selections for 100% Remote or Traditional learning will remain in place until March. The next opportunity to shift groups will be in March when we begin the fourth quarter. We are excited about a vaccine beginning to be distributed in our community. We hope that will get us back to full-time, in-person learning soon. Thank you for your continued support as we enter 2021!

Good morning students and families, In an effort to lower any risk to or traditional students, staff, and families, the Centennial School Board decided to have all students learn remotely this coming week (11/30-12/3). Here are a few details about what this means for you: 1. Traditional students will Zoom during their regularly scheduled class time on the days they would be in-person. All scheduled remote days for traditional and remote students will follow its regular schedule. For any questions about Zoom class sessions, please reach out to your teacher. 2. Please remember, Zoom instructional time is mandatory. These cannot be missed and students must participate with their cameras on, dressed to attend school, and actively engaging with the learning. Students who miss Zoom meetings are missing the most important part of remote learning- the instructional class time. Now that we have all made the adjustment to these platforms, it is no longer acceptable to only do the assignment. 3. Meals are available for all students, remote and traditional, for pick-up at the school as usual. Meal pick-up times are Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:00-11:00. 4. Picture day has been canceled and will be rescheduled. We will notify families of the new date once it is set. We will continue to monitor COVID spread in our county in order to make future decisions that always place the health and well-being of our school community at the forefront.
Good morning Centennial families, School pictures for tomorrow and Tuesday have been cancelled and will be rescheduled at a later date. Thank you.

Good evening Centennial families: With the rise of COVID cases across the state and in our Valley, we are grateful to the safety practices each student, family, and teacher has demonstrated. We hope to continue keeping our school community safe moving forward. To accomplish this, we will remain at just one day a week for our traditional students until we begin to see a decrease in cases in our region. We ask that your child stay home on in-person learning days if you or anyone in your household are experiencing any symptoms. Just call the front office to let us know the reason for their absence. Also, as we approach the Thanksgiving holiday, be safe and limit your gatherings. Enjoy time with loved ones in your household and connect virtually with extended family this year, rather than in person. We all need to continue practicing social distancing, washing our hands regularly, and wearing a mask to get through this time without overwhelming our healthcare system and losing loved ones. Thank you.
Attention Parents: There will be a parent Alma training on Tuesday, Nov 17 at 5:30 via Zoom. This is an opportunity to learn how to better use Alma to support your child's learning. We will look at checking grades, reading bulletins, accessing report cards and emailing teachers. Login info will be sent through Alma next week.

Good evening Centennial Families, Next week, we will begin bringing traditional students on campus for a regular school day once a week. Students will be divided into two groups with 1 group coming to school on Mondays and the other group coming to school on Tuesdays. On Mondays, Preschool-2nd grade, 7th-8th grades, and 10-12th grade traditional students will come to school on campus. On Tuesdays, 3rd-4th grades, 5th-6th grades, and 9th grade will come to school on campus. As we take this first step to safely bring traditional students back on campus, we are ensuring that traditional and 100% remote students will have the same access to direct support from their teachers. All students will receive direct support at least 2 days a week (Either in Zoom or in person) and will have independent practice for 2 days a week. We hope to ease the stress of remote learning for many of our students by having in-person instruction once a week for traditional students and continued Zoom instruction for our 100% remote students. Your child's teachers will be sharing any schedule changes with you and your children during their Zoom sessions this week. We will also share the schedules with you through Alma and the Centennial website. Thank you for your support through all of these decisions and the steps we have taken as a school community to ensure a safe, quality education.

Good evening Centennial families, Last week, the Centennial Board of Education voted to bring traditional students back to campus one a day a week beginning October 19. If you would like to change your child's enrollment from 100% remote to traditional or vice versa, you can change their registration type this week. Just call the front office to make that switch. If not switched by Thursday at 5:00pm, they will remain in their registration group. The next time to switch registration groups will be at semester. When traditional students return to campus, we will reorganize groups and will not use cohort A and B when we return. The new schedule will be sent home to families next week. We are excited to have students return safely to campus in small, measured steps. We appreciate everyone's support and patience during this time. Go Rams!

Good evening middle and high school families, We are about to enter our first full week of remote learning. The first two days had a few bumps and hiccups, but we managed to work through most of them. Take a few minutes this evening to look at your student's Zoom schedule for tomorrow. These Zoom meetings are required and can be joined by computer or phone. Be sure to discuss joining options with your student's teachers if you are experiencing connectivity issues. There are two other sites that will be important as we progress through this period of remote learning. First, check in with your student that they are completing their assignments in Odysseyware. Then, check your child's grade in Alma to see how they are doing. It is also helpful to check attendance in Alma since attendance is maintained by your student's daily activity in completing assignments and joining Zoom class sessions. We are all navigating this new road together and are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead of us. Go Rams!

After much discussion, community and teacher forums, staff and family surveys, and conversations with public health and other county agencies, at the regular Centennial Board of Education meeting on July 23, the school board voted unanimously to begin the year with remote learning for all students. Initially, students will follow a 12-day staggered schedule by cohort for students to be on campus for two-days prior to beginning remote learning. Although students will begin the first few weeks of school doing remote learning, there will be opportunities for small, targeted groups of students to come to campus for additional support. After September 1, the school will begin a process of evaluating when we might return to school in a hybrid format using an A/B schedule. For families who are not comfortable with any in-person days for the entire semester, they can register their children for 100% remote learning. To read a full article detailing the plan, visit the district website at centennial.k12.co.us. There will be several updates sent out over the next week. Be sure to answer calls from the school and watch your mailbox.

Good evening Centennial Families: We realize this has been a challenging time for everyone between adjusting to social distancing protections, worrying about the health and safety of loved ones, and adjusting to remote learning for our students. Some families and students have thrived while remote learning, while others have struggled or disengaged. We want to support all students in being successful. Since some students learn better while on campus, in-person with their teachers and have struggled to complete assignments or remain caught-up during these past few weeks, we will provide support for these students specifically at the beginning of next year through a jumpstart program. Students who are unsuccessful during the fourth quarter will come to school 6 days before other students at the beginning of next year. This will be a time for one-on-one support; a chance to build the skills they are missing during this remote learning time; and to be better prepared for the rigorous coursework of the next grade level. Check with your children's teachers over the next week to see if your child is missing assignments or is not engaging in the work of the fourth quarter, which may require them to be in the jumpstart program. We have only two weeks left, so let's finish strong and get the most out of the learning experiences that remain. Go Rams!

Now is the perfect time to Adopt-a-Senior at Centennial! The Coronavirus restrictions have quickly ended many of the important “last times” for our seniors to enjoy being a kid before transitioning to adulthood. They have missed out on milestones in their lives such as prom, senior year spring sports, end-of-the-year activities, and an in-person graduation on May 22. Let’s work together to make the month of May feel a little less isolated and support the Class of 2020 as a community. There are 15 seniors available for adoption, and we will pair you with a senior awaiting adoption. Feel free to adopt more than one! To Adopt-a-Senior, simply send a contribution along with a note of encouragement to Crystal Quintana at firstname.lastname@example.org or coordinate by calling (719) 298-1398. Your contributions will be used to provide each senior with heartfelt gifts and treats throughout the month. Crystal will connect you with a senior and provide some background information right away. Let’s show the Centennial Class of 2020 how much we love and support them by Adopting a Senior today— Go Rams!

Good afternoon Centennial families: We have recently installed a booster antenna to the school to provide wifi for students to use in our school parking lot. This signal may reach to some parts of San Luis close to the school as well. To access it, just look for "Centennial School Wifi Guest." With a charged laptop or Chromebook, students will be able to access Zoom meetings, work on assignments in Odyssey, or access their Google classroom resources. We are still trying to get hotspots for families, but there is reliable wifi in the school parking lot now.

Good evening Centennial families, Tomorrow will be the first time each family is dropping off completed work for their children. To make this process as smooth as possible, we will drop off assignments at the same time we pick-up new materials for this week. If you have been contacted about checking out a Chromebook, this week's materials will need to be picked up at Centennial, so you can sign a technology check-out form. To make this process as smooth as possible, please follow these steps for your pick-up location: If you are picking up meals and/or materials in Chama, El Rito, San Acacio, or Garcia, bring all completed assignments to your meal pick-up and put them in the box the cooks have. They will then give you your materials for this week. If you are picking up at Centennial, pull around the school after you get your meals. There will be a black barrel to drop off your assignments in. While you drop-off the completed assignments, we will place the new assignments in your trunk. If you are checking-out a Chromebook, we will have you pull forward to complete the paperwork and then give you the assigned Chromebook. You will not need to get out of your vehicle at anytime, which will help us all practice safe, social distancing. On a separate note, third quarter report cards will be part of the material set next Wednesday. Thank you for your continued patience as we transition to remote learning. We hope your children's learning experiences this week were engaging. We have established several systems to support you and your children during this time. These include regular phone calls from teachers, established office hours for students to contact their teachers with questions about their assignments, and integrating virtual platforms for live, video conferencing. Many teachers will be using different virtual tools and platforms to deepen your children's learning this week. Most have scheduled Zoom meetings and other strategies to make sure your children are receiving the instruction and supports they need to be successful. Be sure to reach out to teachers during their office hours if you or your child need assistance. If you have any questions, concerns, or comments, you can also let us know during your teacher phone check-ins or reach out to the school directly.
Tonight's Board of Education Meeting will be held via Zoom. It is open to the public, and we will have our public to be heard section. To join this meeting virtually, use this link: https://zoom.us/j/795347615

One final note, all pick-ups will be grab and go. We must maintain six foot social distancing and gatherings under 10 people, so please, do not eat your food on campus or get out of your vehicles while picking-up meals or materials. Thank you!
Good Evening Centennial families, Tomorrow, we begin our food and assignment pickup. All student assignments for the week can be picked-up at the same time as meals. If you are picking up food at the Churches in Chama or El Rito and you said you wanted to pick-up your assignments at the same place as your meals, your assignment packets for your family will be there. Be sure to be in Chama by 8:30 and San Francisco by 9:00 for pick-up. If you specified in the survey to pick-up assignments at the Community Center in San Acacio or the Fire Station in Garcia, the assignments for your family will be there. Be sure to be in San Acacio by 8:30 and Garcia by 9:30 for pick-up. All others will pick-up their children's assignments at Centennial from 8:30 to 9:30am. When you come to pick-up at Centennial, you will drive into the school differently than you do for a normal school day. You will make the immediate left when you pull into the parking lot, so your driver-side will be curbside for the meal pick-up. You will then drive along the sidewalk to pick-up your child's assignments from the side of the school by the outdoor amphitheater. This is the side door that leads directly to the gym. We will have people and signs to guide you when you come to the school. We realize this is a different system, but we feel it will work safely and easily once we all get the hang of it. We look forward to beginning remote learning with your children, so come get their assignment bundles right away. Thank you.
Good evening Centennial families, Today, many of you received a call to survey you about your family's needs during this transition to remote learning. We will use this information to guide decisions about how to structure the learning ahead for your children. Over the next few days, you will begin receiving regular, check-in calls from your children's teachers. These calls are the first step in communicating regularly with each of you to make sure we are providing the supports you and your children need to be successful remote learners. Teachers met today to plan for the learning ahead and create packets for you to pick-up. These materials will be ready for pick-up on Wednesday. In the weeks ahead, you will drop-off completed assignments and pick-up the materials for the next week each Wednesday. We will have a schedule for you to pick-up or drop-off these materials without leaving your car, so we can continue to practice social distancing. You will pick-up materials based on the last name of your household. If your household has more than one last name, you will pick-up according to the last name that comes first alphabetically. This schedule will be available tomorrow, and we will call you with your individual pick-up time and location. Thank you for your continued patience as we develop our remote learning system.
Centennial will be providing meals for anyone under the age of 18 beginning Wednesday, March 25. Families will be able to pick up breakfast and lunch every Monday and Wednesday beginning March 25 until the school re-opens. One person representing the family can pick up for all their children under 18. You will receive two breakfasts and two lunches on each pick up day. Meals will be available for pick up at the following locations and times: At Centennial from 8:30am until 9:30am At the Community Center in Old San Acacio from 8:30am until 9:00am At the Church in Chama from 8:30 to 8:50 At the Church in San Francisco from 9:00 to 9:20 At the Fire Station in Garcia from 9:30 to 10:00 We will provide more updates about remote learning for our students in the coming days.
Dear Centennial Families, Students, and Community, Due to rising concerns about slowing the spread of the Coronavirus across our state, Centennial School District R-1 will shift to remote learning for all PK-12 grade students and students in our Early Learning Center following spring break until April 16, 2020. This decision is based on on-going conversations with health professionals in the Valley, San Luis and Costilla County health officials, and San Luis Valley Superintendents. All in-person classes are cancelled until the situation is re-evaluated in April or there is additional guidance from the State or federal governments. We will be working as a staff to prepare instructional materials for your children and will have them available to all Centennial families on Wednesday, March 25. We will provide parents with a material pick-up schedule to ensure we are practicing appropriate social distancing. We will also provide families with information about student meal pick-up options in the upcoming days. We hope to not have students miss a single meal that would be served during a regular school schedule. Ultimately, the health and well-being of our community, students, and families is at the core of this decision, and we will do all we can to keep you informed. Please, use this time to enjoy the wonders of your child’s learning and growth. Explore ideas, books, music, and play- together. Thank you for your continued support in protecting our most vulnerable populations.
