Costilla County Public Health Update: Feb. 16, 2021

SAN LUIS VALLEY- The San Luis Valley COVID-19 vaccination task force met on Tuesday to coordinate vaccination efforts. All participating vaccine providers confirmed that they have waiting lists. As vaccine shipments are received, providers are working their way through their waiting lists and scheduling appointments for those who are currently eligible. If you have signed up on one of these lists, you will not receive a call until the provider is able to schedule an appointment for you. If you manage to get a vaccine elsewhere while you are waiting for an appointment, please call and have yourself removed from any waiting lists that you signed up for. Removing yourself from other waitlists once you have been vaccinated allows our vaccinating providers more time to get out vaccine to those who still need it. Please also plan to receive your second dose with the same provider where you received your first dose.

Some pharmacies are now able to offer the vaccine, with limited supplies. To sign up, see the vaccine provider list at the end of this article.

A new single-dose vaccine from Johnson and Johnson is going through the process to receive Emergency Use Authorization for use against COVID-19. It works in a different way than the vaccines which are already in use. We will share more details about the new vaccine as it becomes available over the coming weeks, if and when it is approved for use.

Colorado has a new 24/7 phone line for information about COVID-19 vaccines.  Call 1-877-CO VAX CO (1-877-268-2926). Answers are available in multiple languages.
