SAN LUIS VALLEY - More than 5,000 people have received a COVID-19 vaccine so far in the San Luis Valley. Vaccine supply is slowly beginning to increase, but it will take time for everyone who is eligible and who wants to receive a vaccine to get one.
Beginning on February 8th, those ages 65-69 will become eligible for the vaccine. Local Public Health Agencies/Departments have begun reaching out to schools and licensed child care providers to make arrangements for those who will also become eligible on February 8th. Colorado is focused on making in-person learning for children as safe as possible, recognizing that remote learning can present barriers to workplace participation of parents, especially women, and has potential negative effects on the mental and physical health of children.
Please, even if you have been vaccinated fully against COVID-19, there is still a need to continue to observe preventive precautionary measures. Precautions such as wearing a mask, social distancing, and avoiding crowds will help keep us on the right track. Even after all this time, there is still more to learn about COVID-19, such as the duration of protection provided by vaccines and antibodies, and the potential effects of new variants of the virus. However, based on what we do know, community commitment to continued precautions remains essential to reducing the number of new cases so we can qualify for loosened restrictions on business and gatherings.
