Poison Control calls regarding human exposure to ivermectin have tripled in 2021, driven largely by misinformation on social media. Currently, ivermectin has not been proven as a way to prevent or treat COVID-19, and it has not been approved by the FDA for this purpose. Do not swallow products containing ivermectin that should be used on skin (e.g., lotions and creams) or are not meant for human use, such as veterinary products.

In the San Luis Valley, our one-week COVID-19 positivity rate is currently 8%, roughly double what it was a week ago. Positivity rate shows the percentage of COVID-19 tests that come back positive for COVID-19. Our goal is to keep the rate well below 5%. A rising positivity rate means it is likely that many cases are not being identified. When cases are not identified, it makes it more difficult to contain the spread of the virus. One thing community members can do to help bring down our positivity rate is to be tested if you have symptoms of COVID-19, which may feel like a cold, flu, or allergies.
