Epidemiologists estimate that 60.3% of San Luis Valley residents are currently immune to COVID-19 based on vaccination or prior infection. (This estimate does not include Mineral County, which was counted with the West Central Public Health Partnership, whose estimate is 58.5%.)

The San Luis Valley’s case incidence rate and positivity rate fall into the “severe” category today. Because the virus is circulating so widely, public health encourages a layered approach to COVID-19 prevention, especially for those at highest risk. No single strategy is perfect, not even vaccines. In addition to vaccination, choose strategies appropriate to the situation such as staying home when you are sick, minimizing your time in crowded situations, increasing ventilation, and wearing a mask indoors.

There are currently 311 known active cases of COVID-19 in the SLV.

Alamosa County - 119

Conejos County - 40

Costilla County - 11

Mineral County - 3

Rio Grande County - 121

Saguache County - 17

“Those of us who work in public health have seen the impacts of COVID-19 in our own families and among our friends and colleagues. Our hearts go out to those who have lost loved ones to this disease and to those who have suffered health and other impacts. We are grateful to those on the front lines who continue to work to save lives under exhausting and difficult circumstances,” said Public Health Director Paul Wertz, RN-MSN of Costilla County Public Health.
