Centennial School District R-1 will remain closed for students for the remainder of this week due to a credible threat directed toward our school.
We are working closely and continuously with the Costilla County Sheriff’s Office and the District Attorney’s Office as they continue an active investigation. The decision to remain closed has been made out of an abundance of caution and in coordination with law enforcement partners to ensure the safety of everyone in our school community.
Please note that all school activities, practices, and events scheduled through Monday are canceled while the investigation continues and the district completes additional safety measures.
We ask that no students or community members come to campus at this time while law enforcement and district personnel continue their work.
We know this situation is unsettling, and we want to thank our families and community for their patience, trust, and understanding as we take every step necessary to protect our students and staff. The safety and well-being of our school community remain our highest priority.
We will continue to share updates and next steps through our district communication channels, including phone, text, Facebook, and our school website, as more information becomes available.

Centennial is here to help during this time. We are providing several reminders and opportunities if your family is impacted and needs extra food assistance.
School meals are still available free to all students. We also provide Friday school options, which include breakfast and lunch. During the month of November, Friday school will include special activities and events to provide additional learning opportunities. Have your student join us on Fridays to learn, eat, and grow.
Monday, November 3 is the next commodities distribution. Costilla County's commodity distribution, primarily through The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), is scheduled for the first Monday of the month from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Public Health Agency. This program provides USDA food boxes to low-income households. You must register at the distribution site and can only pick up food for yourself and one other household.
There is also the local Food Bank who provides food to families in need. We have resources to support families identified as McKinney-Vento. We also have many partnerships around the Valley to help you during this time. Give the front desk a call, so we can connect you and support you and your family during the time of additional need.
If you need additional food before your SNAP benefits are available, here are local resources that can help:
